The Cultural Awareness Forum and Individual Report is a two part research and writing task designed to help you develop the following elements of the course objectives:

• Build the skills, knowledge and resources you need to help you prepare and write your Major Project, including awareness of the role of the engineer and Engineers Australia Code of Ethics. (CO1, CO2, CO3)
• Develop and extend your writing and research skills. (CO5)
• Develop your understanding of the needs, interests, protocols and perspectives of Aboriginal communities. (CO3)

Part A: Individual Postings to the Cultural Awareness Forum 
You are required to post to three out of the four discussion topics in this forum. Use the Cultural Awareness Forum to help inform your Individual Report. Forum posts will be moderated and monitored by our ACUP team, all of whom have extensive experience working with Aboriginal communities.

Report Task: 

Use your readings, write an Individual Report of up to 1500 words on the role of the engineer to develop appropriate engineering solutions.  Your report must include your responses to the following:

• How will following a human-centred design approach, and the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics, help an engineer to develop appropriate engineering solutions?  In your discussion include how it is important to also consider “Connection to Country” and “Country-Centred Design” during the design process.  
• What principles for community consultation would you follow when working with Aboriginal Australian communities? How would the same principles be applied when working with any client on an engineering project?
• How do inclusive behaviour and cultural awareness influence the way you communicate with your client and stakeholders, and help you work effectively within an engineering team?
