Logistics and operations aspects are major considerations in supply chain planning at the all three levels of  strategic, tactical and operational. Aim and Objectives: 
The aim of this assessment is to demonstrate the understanding and application of relevant logistics and  operations management concepts, tools and techniques to effectively deal with supply chain risks. 
As such, the key objectives of this assessment task are to: 
(i) Determine the sources and effects of uncertainty related to supply chain planning; and  (ii) propose the ways in which supply networks can be designed/configured/operated, through appropriate  logistics and operations decisions, to effectively deal with supply chain risks.  
Proposed Approach: 
This assessment task is to be completed by groups of up to 4 students (max), following the approach  outlined below. 
1) Undertake a targeted literature review to identify the sources of uncertainty related to supply chain  planning, with a particular focus on logistics and operations aspects; 
2) Identify the major risks associated with supply chain design/configuration/operations decisions and their  impact on supply network operations and performance; 
3) Select one of the industry sectors listed below* and demonstrate the application of five substantial measures aimed at mitigating the negative impact of relevant risks; and 
4) Evaluate anticipated gains/benefits of the measures proposed in item 3 above, including possible  limitations in relation to their implementation, to arrive at suitable conclusions and recommendations. 
Key Deliverables: 
Compile a succinct report (4000 words, max) outlining the key findings of the literature review, risks  identified and the proposed measures aimed at mitigating the impact of risks, along with a summary account  of evaluation, including limitations in relation to their implementation and any further work suggested.
