community is expected to enter Stage 3 of the Demographic Transition Model in 2025. Listed
below are events that have had a major impact on the community’s demographic transition:
The Soweto uprising of the 16th of June, 1976 resulted in the in-migration of many young
people (ages 15-35 years) into the community;
In 1991, the Group Areas Act was abolished. Therefore, from 1991 to 2000, a large
majority of young people (ages 15-35 years) out-migrated from the rural community.
Out-migration still occurs till present but at a much reduced rate than occurred between
1991-2000;
The Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) and subsequent developmental
programmes of post-1994 governments have enabled the low-income, high-density
community to access new and improved physical infrastructure for the delivering of
services such as water, sanitation, primary health care, power supply and roads.
By means of a Line-graph, draw what could be the trends in Crude Birth Rate (CBR), Crude
Death Rate (CDR) and Total Population for a 50 year period between 1970 to 2030. At distinct
