1.INTRODUCTION This handbook contains the necessary information needed to undertake individual Engineering Management project. The project is equivalent to a total of four modules (60 credit points). Typically it should take 600 hours to complete and should be an intellectually competent piece of work. The students have about 13 weeks to work on the project and they are expected to work full-time during this time. As students are in the final phase of a postgraduate qualification, they are expected to work independently. The marks achieved in this project have a strong influence on the final degree classification. The completion of this project is the sole responsibility of the individual student. The academic supervisors are available for guidance only. The project is an important part of your MEM/MSc with managaement degree programme. The main aim of this project is to provide an opportunity for students to plan, organize and execute an individual piece of research work, which addresses engineering, scientific, technological or management issues. Students are expected to demonstrate a critical understanding of a subject area, the analysis and synthesis of results, alternatives concepts, the use of problem solving and analytical skills, the demonstration of initiative and evidence of original thought. Student should be able to read and understand research papers and articles in academic journals to build simple theoretical models to initiate own empirical research and to evaluate its findings. Students are encouraged to conduct research on novel research topics and should aim for publishing journal papers from their findings. Necessary guidance will be provided by the supervisor in order to achieve this

2. PROJECT TOPIC AND SUPERVISOR ALLOCATION Students are recommended to discuss with the MEM academic team regarding their area of research interest for the selection of a suitable topic. Student must indicate their interests via the Google Form available on the blackboard. Student can register two titles of their choice. When registering, students MAY express a choice of individual research titles, all project title allocation are subject to your supervisor’s discretion. As you proceed with the project registration, you are given an opportunity to suggest your own title provided it is appropriate to the degree course on which you are studying and the areas of expertise within the School. The allocation of supervisor is the responsibility of the MEM project module coordinator and will be done at the start of the project period. In addition, student will also need to complete the Project Agreement Form (see Appendix A of this booklet) and fill in all the sections if possible. Then submit to the supervisor when submitting the feasibility report. 3. PROJECT TIMETABLE MEM project module coordinator will inform you of your supervisor via Blackboard. Every student must meet his/her allocated Supervisor within first week of allocations being posted on Blackboard to confirm the exact requirements of the allocated project title.
