Engineering Technology Assessment Answer

Assignment Task: For a selected industry (from the selection list next page),
(a) Draw a general process flow diagram for the water and wastewater cycle (Hint, use the flow charts (also available in the course website) as a format guide or template and adapt to your case) and briefly (in a few sentences) explain each key step in the water and wastewater cycle; (b) List and briefly describe the key water quality requirements for the industry; (c) List and briefly describe the key characteristics of waste waters generated in the industry; (d) Sketch the key water and wastewater quality parameters in a water quality wheel diagram (see end of this document or course website for the template), and (e) List all the major water and/or wastewater treatment technologies that are used in the water and wastewater treatment processes as shown in the process flow diagram.
Select a major water and/or wastewater treatment technology from the processes in Question 1 above,
(a)?Explain the general target application areas of the technology, (b)?Explain the scientific/ technical principals of the technology, (c)?List the key process design parameters, and (d)?Briefly discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the technology.
Industry Selection List
(1) General food processing (2) Fruit and/or vegetable processing (3) Breweries and distilleries (4) Soft drink beverage (5) Milk and dairy (6) Textile industry
The water quality wheel is a diagram to visually illustrate the water quality parameters. The centre of the wheel represents pure water and 25 oC and 1 atm, and each axis from the centre represents one water quality parameter. You can add other water quality parameters into the template. The numerical value of each parameter can be plotted on the axis and the points on each axis can then be linked into a line. The area within the line provides a qualitative measure for the deviation from pure water. Therefore, the smaller the area, the higher the water quality. University: Griffith University
