Abstract

Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) is an land efficient, safe environmentally friendly of transport. mode lof logistics However, this advantage through has been steadily inland eroded due to the rapid waterways improvement emissions from other transport modes. Without specific action, the environmental traditional advantages of IWT will further deteriorate in the future. A modal shift from the current road transport system to inland waterway transportation could be beneficial for various reasons, like less pollution and congestion, as well as fewer accidents, visual noise, and intrusion. The overall objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of establishing India's capacity to collect credible, independent, certified information on costs effectiveness, the applicability of green technologies to the IWT sector and methods to improvise upon the existing logistics through inland waterways.
