Assignment Task

This element of assessment requires students to research the role of the ERP system digital technologies in a particular area of business application or innovation (potentially within the case study organisation or the student’s workplace) and present their findings.

Scenario

Using the either Global Auto case study or your own organisation as the basis for the assignment.

You are an information system consultant working for New Century Systems (NCS) and have been invited to give a presentation to students at Derby Business School regarding the development of integrated enterprise information systems support for organisational processes within one of the functions within the Global Auto ERP project or your own organisation.

Requirement

• Explain your business area in general terms e.g. main areas of responsibility, cycle of processes, events, transactions, etc.
• Illustrate the nature of cross-functional integration within your business area by providing three examples of data/information flows between different functional organisational units (one of which must be the Accounting function//department)
• Discuss key challenges or difficulties that may affect the adoption/implementation of IT-based business processes in your chosen area, and suggest potential solutions/responses in each instance (note: to gain such understanding, consult academic research articles/case studies and ‘practitioner/customer success stories.

Business Areas:

You may select your own specific business area/model/industry to present upon. To promote diversity in the coverage of chosen topics, you are encouraged to consider varied areas like:

• Sales & Marketing (e.g. sales order processing, customer/supplier relationship management, B2C/e-business sales etc)
• Logistics/Inventory Management or Distribution (e.g. warehouse operations, supply chain management, industry value chain, shipping & transportation, e-procurement etc)
• Manufacturing/Production or Service Operations (e.g. just-in-time manufacturing, assemble-to-order production model, customer support services, retail services, new product development, off-shoring et.
