Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Performance Assignment

Assignment Task

This research Project is to assess your understanding on Topic, and to document the first stage of a research project, including the preliminary and core elements of a typical research project. You are leading and planning a quantitative research project on the impact of ESG(environment, social, and governance) on firm performance. Follow the instructions below and prepare your writing in five sections.

Research planning

Based on Week 1&2 Lectures, discuss the detailed stages of your research process and related activities in each of the stages.

Literature review

Search relevant literature in the area of ESG and financial performance. Review the literature, identify the gaps, and write a critical literature review for your research project.

Sample selection and data collection

1) Construct a sample that consists of at least firms from FTSE index, based on your sampling frame (via the Fame database).

2) Collect the latest annual data on Company information and Key financials from Fame database. See Table 1 for the variables.

3) Collect the latest data manually on ESG Risk Scores from Yahoo Finance.

4) Prepare your dataset based on the Excel template provided on Canvas. Name the Excel file.

5) Briefly describe your sample size, sample composition, and data collection process.

Based on Week 1&2 Lectures and your understanding of this project, answer the following

Questions

1) What is the underlying research paradigm of this research project? What are the main differences between Positivism and Interpretivism?

2) Briefly explain two methodologies that are associated with the above two paradigms.
