Highlights
Assessment
Prepare and record a 15-minute audio-visual presentation that summarises your key themes and findings and provides recommendations for strategies for advocacy in relation to a specific issue or population.
Context
The assessments for EPA618 consist of three interlinked tasks. The first assessment task is a literature review with a focus on a specific issue or population. The second assessment task is a written report in which you analyse and evaluate the key themes from your literature review. The third assessment task is an audio-visual presentation in which you summarise your key themes and findings and make recommendations for strategies for advocacy in relation to the specific issue or population.
Following the completion of Assessment 1 (the literature review) and Assessment 2 (the thematic analysis of the literature), you should now be able to apply the knowledge and understanding that you gained to formulate recommendations for advocacy strategies that could assist in addressing social injustices.
An ability to describe concepts, skills and strategies is important for those seeking to promote social change. An audio-visual recording will be used to assess your ability to prepare material and then present that material in an accessible form. An ability to translate themes from written assignments into an audio-visual presentation and an ability to present research supported by visual sources will enhance your advocacy skills.
Instructions
For this assessment task, you are required to prepare and then record an audio-visual presentation that summarises your key themes and findings and makes five recommendations for strategies for advocacy in relation to your issue or population group. The audio-visual recording should be no longer than 15 minutes in length. Please submit a written reference list of the six (6) resources you have cited. Your references should be credible sources, such as peer-reviewed academic journal articles or chapters from textbooks.
To prepare for the recording, please review your literature review and your written report (i.e., Assessment Tasks 1 and 2) and the subject reading materials. Make notes describing your key themes and findings and think about your five recommendations for strategies for advocacy in relation to the issue or population group that you have chosen
In the content of your presentation, you should critically evaluate the relationship between the literature, evidence and outcomes that inform advocacy in relation to the issue or population group that you have chosen. As you prepare your audio-visual presentation, you should reflect on the discourses surrounding the nature of power and oppression in the context of social justice and the ways in which theories of empowerment and advocacy operate within a human-rights framework.
Presentation Content
The audio-visual presentation should critically evaluate the relationship between the literature, evidence and advocacy outcomes in relation to the issue or population group that you have chosen.
You will need to summarise your key themes and findings and make at least five recommendations for strategies for advocacy in relation to the specific issue or population. This assessment activity requires you to do more than simply present your opinion.
You must make use of research evidence and theory, particularly as they relate to power and oppression, empowerment and advocacy. Your findings should be linked to the research literature and evidence.
Ensure that you include realworld examples of your issue or population and how this issue or population has been examined in the research. The use of images relevant to your findings will greatly enhance the quality of your presentation. Please note, any images included will need to be cited and referenced.
