Highlights
Write a word report that analyses and evaluates the key themes from your literature review.
Please refer to the Instructions section (below) for details on how to complete this task.
Context
The assessments for EPA618 consist of three interlinked tasks. The first assessment task is a literature review with a focus on a specific issue or population. The second assessment task is a written report in which you analyse and evaluate the key themes from your literature review. The third assessment task is an audio-visual presentation in which you summarise your key themes and findings and make recommendations for strategies for advocacy in relation to the specific issue or population.
There is an abundance of literature that analyses key theories, approaches, methods or findings related to various issues, such as homelessness, social isolation, the criminal justice system, racism, strength-based approaches, consumer advocacy and populations, including people living with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, social isolation, people with complex needs, people experiencing trauma and First Nations groups. The literature also includes the discourses surroundingthe nature of power and oppression in the context of social justice, anti-oppressive practice as a tool for promoting social justice and change. It can also include theories of empowerment and advocacy within a human-rights framework.
Based on the literature you reviewed in Assessment Task 1, in Assessment Task 2, you are required to conduct a written analysis of the key themes in the literature. Written reports are commonly used in professional contexts to summarise the themes in the latest research evidence on a topic or in a field. This will build on the literature synthesis skills that you developed in Assessment 1. Writing a thematic analysis will enhance your written communication skills and ability to clearly summarise research.
Instructions For this assessment task, you are required to produce a word written report that analyses and evaluates the key themes from your literature review. The report should:
Introduction
In the introduction, you may wish to state your focus; that is, your chosen issue or population. You can also summarise the key themes that your literature review generated to guide your reader.
Themes
In this section, you should provide a brief description of each theme.
Discussion
In this section, you should critically analyse the essential features of the themes and the relationships between the themes and contextualise the theories within a human-rights framework. You may wish to critique the discourses surrounding the nature of power and oppression in the context of social justice.
The discussion constitutes the critical review and evaluation of the themes and how they shape or define how we work with and advocate for a range of issues and different population groups.
Conclusion
In this section, you should re-summarise your themes and discussion and identify future areas for research. Are there any gaps in the literature? What are the limitations of the studies you reviewed? What would you like to know more about? Strategies and recommendations for advocacy are addressed in Assessment Task 3.
