In 2012, only 39 per cent of all projects included in Standish Group’s 2012 Chaos report succeeded by being delivered on time and budget with the required features and functions. This is an increase from a year earlier, but it still paints a pretty bleak picture of global IT project successes and failures across just under 50,000 global initiatives. 

Sadly, 18 per cent of these projects failed because they were cancelled prior to completion and delivered or never used, according to the latest Chaos report. 

Some of those failures were no doubt spectacular — though we doubt many of them are as spectacular as the list below of the top 10 enterprises IT disasters that have taken place in recent years in Australia and abroad.”

The Major Project Group Assignment 2018 
This assignment will require you to choose your group members to form a Risk Management Consultancy. From the list of the top 10 IT disaster, your group will choose one to study the risk impact on the selected project and to develop a Risk Management Plan for the project. Your group will use the systems approach to Project Risk Management to identify, analyses and develop mitigating responses. In keeping with good practice, your group will focus on the Standards ISO 31000: 2009 and Due Diligence as legislated in the Work Health and Safety Act 2012. Management of the group dynamics is a part of this assignment, and it is a training exercise in teamwork – everybody has opinions and are entitled to it, however, the harnessing of these makes for a good report- diversity which encourages opportunity. 

Report Submission Requirements 
1. Each group to submit a hardcopy of Stage 1A and Stage 2A reports to the lecturer in class on the due dates. 
2. Each group to submit one softcopy of Stage 1A and Stage 2A to the appropriate Dropbox on the Vu Collaborate. Only one submission per group and use your Group Number as your report’s filename. 
3. Late submission (hard or soft copy) penalty applies – 10% per day late and no submission will be accepted after one week. 
4. The Dropbox has a due date for submission and it will automatically record any late submission. 
5. No excuses will be accepted for a late submission. The only exception when the group informed the lecturer before the due date and with valid reasons in writing. 
6. The reports will address the criteria as in the Marking Rubric for Stage 1A and Stage 2A. 
7. Victoria University uses the Harvard AGPS (Aust. 2010) style as standard for reference. Use this style in your assignment. (a penalty applies to incorrect submissions) 
8. Victoria University has a plagiarism policy. If your assignment exceeds 20% similarity from non-referenced sources the assignment will not be graded.
