Focus Statement and Specific Instructions for the Assignment
Focus Statement
"The Instrumental Enrichment Program (FIE) originated in the 1950s, was intended as a systematic program to train thinking and improve independent learning for young people in a situation of school failure and/or deprivation" (Lebeer, 2022:25). Consequently, Reuven Feuerstein's teaching philosophy argues that educators should aim to impart bidirectional learning and thinking strategies, over a one-directional teacher-centric teaching and learning approach.
Essay Instructions
Critically evaluate the above quote and the applicability of Feuerstein's teaching philosophy of structural cognitive modifiability and mediated learning within the South African teaching and learning context. Furthermore, your evaluation must also identify an area of concern or challenge you have identified from your experience in the classroom as a teaching practice student.
