CONFIGURATION STEPS for this lab:
Start with: erase startup-config and then reload the device.
Give the command "show ip interface brief" - this should show no configurations on any interfaces and all interfaces should show "down - down" or "administratively down - down".
DOCUMENTATION: copy and paste the output of the previous command into a text file
Set the hostname of the device to "RTR1-" (substitute your own uwnetid)
replace  with your actual UW NetID username only - leave off the email domain - example: I would name my router RTR1-costarec
Configure one of the LAN interfaces with the IP address "192.168.10.100" with a mask of "255.255.255.0"
Don't forget to "no shut" the interface
Give the command: "show ip interface brief" - this should show the configured interface with the layer one status "up"
DOCUMENTATION: copy and paste the output of the last command into your text file
"shutdown" the interface and issue the same command again: "show ip interface brief"
DOCUMENTATION: copy and paste the output into your text file
"no shut" the interface to bring it back up
Save the configuration with "copy run star"
Give the command "show running-config"
DOCUMENTATION: copy and paste the output into your text file (make sure you get the entire output of the command)
Finally, give the command "show version" -
DOCUMENTATION: copy and paste the output of the above into your text file
Hints for cleaner looking output files:
Put several blank lines in between the output of the various commands requested in your text file so I can clearly identify where each starts and ends
Do not indiscriminately copy and paste huge amounts of information that I did not ask for into your output - I will not go hunting for the correct part. Use some sort of separator in between your pasted text for each command's output, such as 1 of the
Save the text file and upload to canvas. Name it whatever you want but make sure it has a ".txt" extension on it and no white space or special chars in the filename.
Your file should be plain ASCII text - windows users can use notepad, Mac users can use TextEdit
"I couldn't make it to the hardware lab. Can I just do this hardware lab in PacketTracer?"
No. PacketTracer is a great learning tool and we will use it a lot, but hardware is different. Learn to use real equipment.
"I forgot to save my config file when I was in the lab. Is it on my computer somewhere?"
No. It is on the router or switch that you were configuring in the lab.
"I forgot to upload my config to canvas when I was in the lab. Can I just open PuTTy again and find it?"
No. It might still be on the router or switch you were using in the lab if no one erased it yet.
All of us on the same rack did the lab together, can we just turn in one submission?
