Jamal was lining up with her friend, Bunty, ready to run the local marathon, when Carla, another participant, stepped on Jamal’s foot. Jamal shouted at Carla “ You have wrecked my chances now and I’m going to make sure I wreck yours . You are lucky the race is about to start”. A few miles into the race, Bunty spotted Carla and, feeling bad for her limping friend Jamal, caught up with Carla and shoved him from behind. Carla stumbled forward and into Donal who fell to the floor. Carla was incensed and later when he spotted Bunty entering a portable toilet at the end of the race, he propped a lightweight barrier against the outside of the door and shouted through the door “ I’ve just locked you in and that will teach you ”. For good measure, Carla untruthfully added “...and by the way your friend Jamal has just collapsed and they’ve had to call an ambulance ”. The barrier is so light that if Bunty had simply pushed the door open from the inside then the barrier would topple over and she would get out easily. However, she didn’t realise this and remained, traumatised, in the portable toilet for 2 hours until the portaloo collecting company arrived.With reference to intentional torts, advise the parties as to any possible claims they may have
