Highlights
Part 2: Professional Analysis Essay
What is the purpose of the Professional Analysis Essay?
Your Professional Analysis Essay enables you to professionally analyse* the recorded responses you have obtained through your audio conversation with an accredited professional Australian teacher. You will use your professional studies in this subject to present your professional analysis in a scholarly essay.
How do I plan my Professional Analysis Essay?
In planning your Professional Analysis Essay you examine the connections between the ideas/perspectives presented in the recorded conversation and your professional studies in this subject, focusing on each of the 6 professional knowledge questions and the teacher responses you recorded. In your Professional Analysis Essay you:
examine the connections between the teacher’s responses for each professional knowledge question and your scholarly reading and viewing in this subject, and draw out and relate implications based on evidence from the scholarly literature/curriculum documents (professional analysis*).
incorporate any necessary contextual information - length of teaching career, position of responsibility or teaching area, background school information (not identifiable)
do not include any reference to the actual identity of the school or the teacher in the body of the Professional Analysis Essay itself (you must use pseudonyms for the school name and the teacher's name in the body of the essay ). The teacher's mandatory permission form is a separate appendix and not part of the body of the essay.
you submit the Professional Analysis Essay as a separate Part 2 .doc or .docx word file (NOT in pdf or any other format) via EASTS as part of your Assessment Item 1 package that will be submitted in 2 separate parts. There is a 10% leeway allowance for each part of the assignment, so the essay can be within the range of 1800 words to 2200 words.
*professional analysis: provide an in-depth examination of the connections between the ideas/perspectives presented by the teacher in the recorded conversation and the scholarly literature/curriculum documents from your professional studies, and draw out/relate any implications that are evident in the scholarly literature/curriculum documents.
What do I need to include in my Professional Analysis Essay?
In preparing your Professional Analysis Essay you must include:
a separate title and contents page including subject name and code, assessment item title, your full name and student number, and listing headings and subheadings and page numbers (not included in word count)
scholarly writing and a formal essay structure with paragraphing, including an introduction and conclusion
a header or footer on each page with student full name and number, page number and assessment item number (not included in word count)
subheadings that must be included to indicate the specific knowledge question headings within your Professional Analysis Essay - these should be short subheadings (eg Question 1, or Successful Teachers) (included in word count)
accurate APA 7th ed. in-text reference citations at all relevant points in the Professional Analysis Essay to provide authoritative evidence and scholarly sources to support your professional analysis (included in word count). For in-text reference citations of the conversation audio recording (when using direct quotations from the recording or paraphrasing the teacher's response from the recording) you include an APA 7th ed. in-text citation for a ‘personal communication’ - include your own initials and name (ie your student initials and name as you are the creator of the digital audio file), personal communication title, date of audio recording and minutes/seconds time locator (eg L. R. Bates, personal communication, 29 July, 2021, 05.45-6.05). For the second and subsequent in-text citations of the personal communication audio recording use the shortened form: (eg Bates, 2021, 08.35-8.55). You include the complete duration of recording time for all direct quotations and paraphrased responses (not just a single timestamp indicator). You do NOT include the personal communication (digital audio recording) reference in your References list.
‘References’ at the end of your Professional Analysis Essay using APA 7th ed. format requirements that includes all research and scholarly literature/authoritative references within the essay (‘References’ list is not included in word count)
the mandatory written permission form from the teacher - this is to be included as a screenshot appendix to the assessment item and located after the References list (not included in word count)
