Section 1:Overview of AssessmentThis assignment assesses the following module learning outcomes:
Show a detailed knowledge and understanding of the major ethical theories, the key Issues raised by ICTs that give rise to ethical concerns, and critical factors relevant to professional practice in the 21st century.
Demonstrate the ability to recognise the dilemmas inherent in professional practice, form balanced judgements on them, and recommend actions in conformance with good practice and within the appropriate legal requirements.
Demonstrate key skills in the communication and dissemination of contestable ethical positions, awareness of professional literature, and negotiating and working with others.
Show knowledge and understanding of technology innovation and the strategies and organizational formations enabled by digital technologies.
The assignment is worth 100%of the overall mark for the module.
Working on this assignment will help you to gain a coherent insight into ethical aspects of a pertinent and core topic in computing.

Section 2:Task SpecificationReport - IndividualA report outlining the ethical issues of a commonly usedinformation and communications technology,e.g. a social media platform, online shopping, online medical consultations, NHS data and apps etc.
You should consider these aspects in your work (you should mention each one, but the emphasis is up to you):
Theoretical ethical underpinnings from the taught material on the module
Evaluation against Article 8 of the Human Rights Act (how it relates to the Law)
Social institutions which affect this (e.g. individuals, families, organisations, religions, local practices, laws, political parties)
Human behaviour, and their impacts on the system
The privacy paradox
How it “should” or “could” be, and suggested improvements (recommendations)
How to (hints and tips)
You should use the first part of your report to set the scope of your work. Scoping is key to your work and you should spend some time honing your topic so that you are clear what you ARE going to talk about, and what you are NOT going to talk about. You should state this in the introductory section of your report.

Draft an report by putting a title and “subheadings” into Word (other software is available).
Do some background reading on your topic – use the reading list for the module, and use keywords to find sources on Google, Google Scholar and the library website. Use the library resources on research skills.
Remember to scan read for the information you need – make notes (either in the Word document you created above, or in your notebook).
Keep track of your references (either with links in the Word document or another piece of software)
(If you like mind maps, draw a mind map of the points you want to cover and how they link)
Start fleshing out your notes and crafting it into the final product
Remember to have a beginning, middle and end. Beginning is a general introduction and scoping, middle is where you make the main part of your argument, end is concluding remarks and recommendations.
Complete the Bibliography (everything you have read) and References (everything you have cited) <- these two sections are NOT included in the word count. Use the library website on exact formats.
Proofread for spelling and grammar errors. Format your document. Include headers (Student No and Module Code is a good start), and page numbers.
Cut down to meet word count as appropriate (this takes some time if you are over word count).
Presentation –IndividualYou will create a 5minute presentation to summarisethe report and your findings. You may also include a reflection about the process for completing the report, and your learning on the module.
Key points:
A pre-recorded session with audio, submitted in a standard playable format (e.g. MP4)
5 minutes long
Summarise your work and findings and additional discussion points. Additionally (and optionally) reflect upon your learning on the module, by reviewing the process and where you might do things differently in the future.
Can be recorded using any technology (you might use smartphone, Powerpoint, Zoom, MS Teams or Blackboard Collaborate etc). It should be ONE video file.
Visual aids are required (poster or slides etc.)
25% of final mark
How to (Hints and Tips):
Use either, a piece of video recording software on your computer, or your phone, to use voice and video to narrate your findings.
You should include a couple of slides, and some video of you talking.
Discuss your report and reflect on the process and learning you underwent to finalise your submission.
