  • Your Team Leader (Mr A) has asked you, and the other trainees to analyse some data on car sales in the EU. As you are from the UK, you have been asked to study the UK data, you must also choose ONE more country to analyse.
  • Task 1 Report (80% of Mark in total)
  • You will need to use Microsoft Word AND Excel for this part of the assignment. You submit ONE Microsoft Word file containing your report. You do not need to submit your Excel file.
  • Section 1: Analysis and forecasting car sales data (60% of total mark for Unit)
  • The work for Section 1 of your report is split into 4 sections;
  • Task 1a – Descriptive Statistics/data visualisation
  • Use the Excel file provided to assess YEARLY new car sales for the UK and your chosen country.
  • You should produce a series of charts and tables that illustrate the data for each country. You will find the following resources useful.
  • Copy/Summarise any relevant numbers, charts and tables from your Excel file into your Report and state your findings from this task in around 150 words.
  • Task 1b Measures of Dispersion
  • For the UK, and your chosen country, calculate the measures of central tendency and dispersion. Mr A has suggested max, minimum, range, mean, median, mode, variance and standard deviation, for yearly sales of cars in the UK and your chosen country. You should choose which of these are most appropriate. The following resource will be useful.
  • Summarise any relevant numbers, charts and tables from your Excel file into your Report and state your findings for this task in around 150 words.
  • Task 1c Yearly forecasting
  • Produce a XY-chart for the UK and your chosen country, showing the date on the horizontal axis. Add a ‘fitted line’ and equation to your chart. Using the equation for the fitted line, predict how many cars you expect to be sold in each country in 2022.
  • Copy your XY charts into your Report and comment on the accuracy and reliability of your forecast/findings in 150 words.
  • Task 1d Seasonal Adjustments
  • For the UK and your chosen country, create 11 dummy variables for January, February, March, etc. to control for seasonal variation in car production. Use these 11 variables, and a trend variable, in a regression.
  • Copy your forecasts to your report and comment on your findings/forecast in 150 words.
  • Section 2 of the Report (20% of total Marks for Unit)
  • You should prepare a 400-word briefing note for inclusion in a Eurostat News Release, summarising the findings from your research. These documents are for use by a visitors Eurostat website, who are often non-statisticians.
  • You can use a maximum of THREE Excel elements in this part (which can be different to the ones in your report). Your summary should fit on no more than two A4 pages. This should be in the SAME Word document as your
