Synopsis
on Evaluation of insecticidal efficacy of some medicinal plants against mosquito vectors
Introduction:
Mosquitoes are responsible for the spread of more diseases than any other group of arthropods. Mosquito borne diseases still remain a major health problem in both human and veterinary sectors. Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes include malaria, dengue hemorrhagic fever, Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever and filariasis. One to two million deaths are reported annually due to malaria worldwide. Lymphatic filariasis affects at least 120 million people in 73 countries in Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Pacific Islands. These diseases not only cause high levels of morbidity and mortality but also inflict great economic loss and social disruption on developing countries such as India (Solomon T et al.2007) .To prevent proliferation of mosquito borne diseases and to improve quality of environment and public health, mosquito control is essential (Bagavana A et al. 2009). The major tool in mosquito control operation is the application of synthetic insecticides such as organ chlorine and organophosphate compounds.
Insecticides are inherently toxic in nature they are more likely to affect the health of human being and its surrounding .the residuals efficacy of insecticides pose threat to environment .corroding the adverse effect to the human and its surrounding plants based eco friendly selection are one of the options which are eco friendly in nature and do not have residual toxicity normally
Therefore we proper a study on the potential plants with known insecticidal activity to induct than in mosquito vector control and to find the fcsibilly of their plant based compound to become a potential insecticide of choice and can reach up to commercial level
Considering these, the application of eco-friendly alternatives such as biological control of vectors has become the central focus of the control programmed in lieu of the chemical insecticides(Bagavana A et al. 2009).
the mosquitocidal activities of various herbal products from edible crops, ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses and marine plants according to the exaction procedure developed in eleven different solvent systems and the nature of mosquitocidal activities against different life stages of different vector species as a ready reference for further studies(Elango G et al.2011)
Prospective and perspective of work: The work will be helpful for evaluation of plant based insecticides for using them as adulticide, repellant and larvicide and to find active ingredient that is common in these plants to develop more products for mosquito control this will be helpful in the malaria elimination program of India also.
Gap in the Research work:
Plant products prove to be good for their proportion but not quantified and used extensively due to not good research behind to back up the product. However, such formatted studies will help in building confidence in the companies who can take up such products to the market for wider uses.
Hypothesis:
The known plants of insecticides properties will be searched and screened for the larvicidal activities. The best extracts of those potential plants will be taken for further larvicidal, repellency and adulticidal activities and further active ingredients will be identified which are common in these plants so as to develop more effective formulations.
Objectives:
Screening of potential plant for insecticidal activity
To evaluates the comparative efficacy of electoral plant
To find the active action common components as a active ingrates for potential development of Products for mosquito control.
Work Plan:
It is divided in to four parts
Prescreening through literature available on plant insecticidal properties in this geographical area.
Field study –collection of selected plants from different location area in Delhi /NCR and store them for their extraction process.
Laboratory study:
The plant extracts will we repaired according to standard protocol.
Dilutions will be made for testing purpose insecticidal properties of their extract and their combinations will be tested on different genera of mosquito i.e. Adulticide Larvicide/repellency using ICMR uniform protocols
The most efficacy extract on combination will be subjected to HPLC/GCMS for
For active ingredient analysis and will be subjected to make products as a feasibly study
Screening of plant for insecticidal
