Task 02 – 500 words

For this task you are asked to critically reflect on your learning over the course of block 1 of this  module. This will include reflections on the scouting.

· Analyse how making your TMA has challenged some of your assumptions about management  and describe how you feel it has enhanced or will enhance your work in the present organization.

This proposal is an important part of the EBI process as it ensures that you consider and plan  appropriately for the work you will be undertaking during the EBI period. The proposal serves as a  way for you to get feedback from your tutor on your plans and to check that you will be undertaking  a sufficiently robust EBI, while at the same time doing something achievable, manageable and  realistic within the time limits you have with this module.

TMA 01 guidance

Your work for this assignment should draw directly on the activities that you have undertaken during  the first block of the module and you should adopt a critical approach to both tasks. This will give  you robust grounding in approaching the EBI and remind you that a key element within the process is  your ability to reflect and revise your proposal as it develops. In employing your critical thinking  skills you will also be using critical evaluation in your adoption and adaptation of theory that will  underpin your work.

The TMA asks you to synthesize and take stock of what you have learned throughout your MBA and  prompts you to think about theories that you have studied and that may be of use to you in this final  module. When you are thinking about theory you should bear in mind that the theory or theories you  adopt should not just be ones that you like, but ones that support and frame the various elements of  the EBI. For example, if your EBI is likely to have financial, human resource or systems  implications, then you should choose theories that support these elements.

For Task 01 you will need to think carefully about your practice, examining potential EBIs that will  not only permit you to carry out a change in your chosen organisation but equally contribute to your  own learning and career development. The EBI is the culmination and capstone of your achievements  on the MBA and should ‘showcase’ your capabilities as a critical practitioner. Whether the EBI  succeeds or not as a change, does not matter so much as the way in which you approach it – your  level of criticality and your questioning approach to all aspects of it, for example, stakeholders,  evidence and resources, etc.

You also need to ensure that your timeline is realistic. As a busy practitioner and student you have  had to manage your time very carefully over the course of the MBA. You should now apply this  knowledge to formulate a realistic time plan for your EBI and this should incorporate the fact that as  part of your cyclic approach to the work you will be constantly evaluating and re-evaluating your  path. It is absolutely critical that you build in this evaluation as it is a core element of reflective and  critical practice.

You are asked to identify relevant theories you propose to underpin your EBI. This means that you  should think about why you are using these theories and what they are going to contribute to the EBI.

You are also tasked with critically examining the potential of the evidence you intend to collect for  the EBI. For example, if you are intending to carry out a questionnaire, you may not be allowing for  responses that go beyond your actual questions; You should also consider elements like sample – who are you asking for information? What may influence their responses? You should not write in  detail on these aspects, but we do expect you to show you have at least considered them. You should  also offer a rationale as to why you have chosen one particular method of data gathering over  another. Don’t forget your text book (Easterby-Smith), which is a great point of reference for  critiquing evidence (amongst other things).

For Task 02 you are expected to do reflective writing on the learnings drawn from the TMA 01 and  how it has enhanced your work in the present organization
