This study is significant in that it provides valuable insight by identifying the current leadership styles – identifying leadership style barriers, enablers and motivations for each generation. Each generation will, therefore, benefit from this in that they will feel that they are positively and actively contributing to the growth (financially and personally) to a business – of which they are an integral stakeholder. In addition, this study provides recommendations to all family business generations - by the research identifying avenues which could close the leadership, control and succession gaps, the research will aid in streamlining a harmonious transition between the generations. The results will be used to improve communication and understanding between generations, creating a more conducive, growing and profitable environment from one generation leads to the next generation leader. As mentioned by Armstrong (2016), Leadership is the process of getting people to do their best to achieve the desired result. Leadership is social influencing process incorporating traits, leadership styles and behaviours of all the individuals within an organisation. Several leadership theories have been developed, exploring the different facets and behavioural attributes. The theories assist researchers to gain an understanding of what is the different leadership processes are. Through exploring the leadership theories, identify the leadership and qualities, their limitations, their motivators and characteristics.
