Introduction
Healthcare is a human right. Post democracy, the South African government made a great effort in focusing on primary healthcare as the choice of preventative medicine. However, there is a general tendency of doctors to move to the private sector, either private hospital, or private general practices. As a result this creates a severe strain on an already over-burdened public health sector. This study, at its core, aims at investigating causes for poor retention of doctors in the public sector as well as coming up with strategies to improve their retention in the KZN region in South Africa. The overall result of retaining these doctors would lead to overall better healthcare in the country, thus improving patient outcomes which would ultimately lead to a happier healthier South
