Description 

For this assessment, you will present a Sketchbook with textile designs and a research diary on textile methodologies and the application of theory. 

Background 

This subject provides students with the opportunity to develop both their textile knowledge and skills. It will build on from information gathered in FA102A, with particular attention to fabric composition and properties, and performance. 

The Sketchbook and Research Diary will allow students to express their understanding of the course content with a particular focus on textile type, print design and garment. 

Details 

Students are required to compile an A4 sized sketchbook that will document research and design exploration in forms including, but not limited to, printed and handwritten text, illustration and sketching, photography, collage and computer-generated work. The sketchbook will include the following elements: 

• Tutorial exercises: exercises undertaken during class 

• Hand made textile designs: following on from the in-class exercises, create non-repeating hand made textile prints through drawings and paintings. (minimum 5) 

• Digitally made textile designs: following on from the in-class exercises, create non-repeating digitally made textile prints through Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. (minimum 5) 

Students are required to compile an A4 sized research diary that will document the methodologies and the application of theory including, but not limited to, printed and handwritten text, annotation & secondary research. The research diary will include the following elements: 

• Lecture: your own notes from the weekly lectures (minimum 1 page per week) 

• Tutorial: your own notes from the classwork must be in your diary. Your practical exercises undertaken during class will be placed in your sketchbook. 

• Inspiration: source inspiring or interesting textiles, fashion shows, posters, artwork, exhibitions etc. and respond to them in the form of words, sketches, and collages on your thoughts, ideas and opinions.
