This can be seen in terms of the following titles using a decision making framework:

Get the facts – through explanation of how important a blood pressure can indicate on a person’s health status; poor hygiene leading to infections; medication-related complications based on medical researches

Consider the ethical fundamental principles-

Autonomy – patients are concerned with their own health and refused to have the practitioner looking after them, thus reporting to other nurses and hospital authority

Beneficence – only if the patients and other staff noticed and reported the case would minimise further harm to patient’s health condition and benefits the public

Consider the law – upon identifying all the ethical dilemmas, the health authority will look into the case and justify if the practitioner has failed to practice in her role of specialties in accordance to the nursing and midwifery regulations; to decide whether further training is required or her licence has to be forever suspended

Evaluate – upon the consideration, the practitioner is told to have further education to acknowledge the ethical and legal aspects of health care, as well as mentoring sessions to identify all issues related to the incident with solutions on how to improve and eradicate clinical errors

Re-assess and conclusion – the health authority will then reveal on the practitioner’s performance to decide if the practitioner has learnt the lesson from the incident and to consider if it is safe for the public to release the practitioner back to the workforce

It is evident that the practitioner is posing a risk of harm to the patients throughout her practice, and has disregarded the quality of care in an ethical and legal aspect. By using the decision-making framework the staff and patients have done the correct decision in reporting the incident to the health authority, and for the safety of public the practitioner is being placed on education and mentorship program for improvement.
