Description
Artefact no. 1 of this portfolio consists of a presentation titled “Finnish cultural dimensions à la Hofstede”, which I gave in class during the past semester. The artefact is related to the learning outcome “Being able to compare and use different cultural dimensions”, displaying my ability to analyse my home country culture in terms of an academic model. This particular format was chosen, because a presentation is a good method to present one’s own thoughts to a broader audience and to gain feedback from classmates, which may not know my culture that well.
Although I knew Hofstede’s model before I came to Fresenius, this was my first time in applying such a model and giving an academic presentation in our master program, thus constituting a valuable exercise. The presentation itself was challenging due the strict time limit, which forced me to consider, which material to include and which to leave out. In the end, I could have included more practical examples to demonstrate the issues discussed in the presentation, since my fellow students asked me about this afterwards. Considering the situation, the artefact works, in my opinion, as a good opening to the portfolio, before more complex topics are discussed.
