This is a simplified version of a process for illustrating flowcharting techniques.

NARRATIVE

The Department Chair receives the Course Schedule from the Registrar and sends it to the Department Secretary who writes in the names of the faculty who are teaching each course. The Secretary makes two copies of the Course Schedule, sends one of the copies to the College, one of the copies to the OIT Department, and files the original in the Course Schedules file cabinet by term number.

The OIT Department manually types the faculty names into the Scheduling Program which retrieves data from the Faculty file and updates the Course Schedules file. The OIT Department also posts the Course Schedule online, and then sends the Course Schedule document to the Department Chair.

The Department Chair reviews the updated Course Schedule, and then sends it to the Faculty who accept their teaching assignments by approving them in the Course Assignments Program which adds the faculty approval code to the Faculty Assignments file. The Department Chair reviews the approvals online. When all approvals are received for the term, the Department Chair files the Course Schedule document in the Assigned Courses file cabinet by department name and date, and then informs the Department Secretary that the assignments are complete. 

The Department Secretary downloads the finalized Course Schedule, separates the courses by faculty in Microsoft Excel, and sends the schedules to the Faculty.

• Create the flowchart in Microsoft Excel - each student creates and submits their own file

• Save the Excel file as a PDF file fitting on one page - only PDF files can be uploaded
  (use the Landscape page orientation on Letter size paper)

• Name the file: Flowchart [First name] [Last name] - Example: Flowchart Renee Smith
