Highlights
This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
1. An introduction, including a clear articulation of the customer requirements;
2. A high-level design of the solution, including one or more diagrams showing how the components, servers and applications will interact.
3. Consideration of how the migration will be carried out, with special care to document:
4. The proposed hardware (CPU information, RAM, storage) and OS versions (Windows server type).
5. Some details of what will change in the management of the new environment (you can either propose an “as a service” model to manage the environment for the library, or outline what will need to be done differently).
You do not need to include the costs of hardware or services
Scenario Information
The following information is all you will receive to respond to the case study. Respond strictly based on the information you are given – do not make any assumptions.
Introduction
The FBPL is currently a single-branch public library located at 226-240 Ocean Drive, Flynns Beach. The FBPL serves a population of approximately 16,000 of which approximately 12,000 are active patrons. The FBPL employs 15 full-time and 9 part-time staff.
The FBPL has a full-time Technology Manager and a full-time Information Technology (IT) Assistant.
To help fulfill the FBPL’s mission to promote lifelong learning, the FBPL uses multiple application servers to provide card catalog access, computer and printing access, as well as intranet and file sharing access to staff.
Due to the number of patrons, FBPL are also opening an additional branch location on the other side of town that will be accessed by both staff and patrons. Both locations will have business-grade internet connectivity with speeds that of at least 100Mbps and low latency.
The FBPL currently uses 13 Microsoft (MS) Windows servers, 5 of which are virtual servers (VS). The FBPL also uses 2 MS Active Directory (AD) domains, one for patrons and one for staff.
Reason for RFP
The majority of FBPL’s physical servers are over 8 years old and must be replaced. In particular, the integrated library system (ILS) server, also referred to as the card catalog server, is overdue for replacement. A successful solution proposal will meet the following objectives:
