Question 5
Happy Pet (Pty) Limited is a pet food and cage manufacturer and wholesaler that operates throughout South Africa. Its manufacturing facility is based in Cape  Town and it delivers throughout the country.
Fifty percent of the company’s sales are made on credit and the rest are cash on delivery. All purchases are on credit.
The company upgraded some of its equipment during 2020 as the old equipment was no longer reliable. The upgrade was funded through debt from the bank.  This method was used because, as a funding option, debt is cheaper than equity.
Due to the global Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the company had to close operations for a period during the lockdown. Furthermore, the impact on the economy in South Africa meant that many people had less disposable income available. Some of Happy Pet's products did not sell as anticipated, but as people continued to buy their products, Happy Pets was able to recover quite well from the lockdown restrictions. This time also allowed the management of Happy Pets to discuss a better way of doing business.
