Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This is a report-based assessment. You are required to undertake a voluntary placement. During the placement you will be working/ visiting the employer’s organisation. The employer that you should look for either should belong to the Accounting industry predominantly like an Accounting firm where lots of clients come and the firm provides the financial solutions to them or should be a business unit of a large organisation who is responsible of looking after organisation’s financial needs and provide solutions based on the financial system requirements.

This assessment aims to help you to develop the skills and knowledge required to strategically manage finances directly linked to organisational performance.

You are asked to look for the business where you will get enough exposure to observe the financial plans and will be able to build some skills within the area.

Assessment Instructions

You are required to download the attached report template and fill and prepare the REPORT after collecting the information from the employer. You will have to conduct the several meetings with various people involved from different departments. You are given with the template attached, for the report and the headings that you must cover in the report. You are required to ask the questions from the employer and prepare your notes related to each topic and then fill up the template. Template individually advises you what you have to write in each heading and guides them as how a professional report is prepared. 

What is required

You will be working and completing your placement at the work place for minimum 10 days. You will be expected to seek your voluntary work placement on your own. As mentioned earlier, you are encouraged to look for placement in the:

• Accounting firm, where you will get exposure to the clients who come for financial consultation and you would be able to experience the issue and might get to see the solutions. This will be the most ideal situation for an Accounting student to seek placement and gather some professional skills. Or, 

• You can seek placement in a business unit of a larger organisation. The business/ finance unit would give the exposure to the working of within the organisation and seeking various solutions to their financial plans. 

The placement will be for minimum 10 working days. You can make the best of this placement by organising the 5-day placement during the mid-semester break and you encouraged to organise the rest of the 5 days during the non-school days of the week before and after the mid semester. We have chosen these days as the businesses are not impacted/ disrupted too much and are able to take a few interns (students) on board during their off-peak time.

During your placement, you will be observing/ working in the organisation. They will be observing the organisation’s financial systems and processes and taking notes of those processes.

It is suggested for you to prepare a questionnaire based on the assignment questions and report requirements and seek answers to that questionnaire.

Template

A template has been provided, this is a basic template which includes the minimum information for assessment; you may vary it to suit your business unit’s Financial System, including additional information. However, please ensure you provide the information areas set for them as a minimum, do not amend or deviate the minimum on the template as it is designed to ensure they cover all the skills, knowledge and performance criteria.  If unsure, discuss with the teacher. 

To ensure each meets competency standards, teachers may need to interview some students to demonstrate and confirm their competency in any of the issues covered by the assignment. As well as presenting a satisfactory report, the student must be able to appropriately answer questions about the assessment.
