Find a recent story in the media, which focuses on one packaging innovation for a UK branded food or beverage product, that has been made available in the last seven years, for one of the two product categories listed below.  

Choose one packaged product selected from either of the following product categories based upon the requirements outlined below:

Category 1. An item that is typically, consumed at once e.g. a smoothie drink, microwave meal,   instant soup. 

,Category 2. A food or beverage product that you keep for an extended period of time and, used in portions/doses e.g. olive oil, fresh tea. 

The assignment involves three parts:

1. Identification and preliminary case analysis of your selected packaged product; (20%)

2. Preparation of a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation; (20%)

3. Writing a critical report on key features of the selected packaged product. (60%)

Part 1

Identify an innovatively packaged product based upon the selection criteria as presented above and with reference to the analytic framework – the “Packaging Value Formula” (PVF) - presented in Appendix 1. 

Prepare an overview of the package together with outline specific packaging performance criteria in 500 to 750 words.  Please use imagery and reference your work as appropriate.

Part 2

Preparation of a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation.  This should describe both the packaging and product that you have chosen. 5 minutes is provided afterwards for answering questions.

Write a report on your selected packaged product – for details, please refer to “Guidance Notes and Assessment Criteria.”
