ESSAY
One of the utmost vital goals of sustainable development of the United Nation is End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and, promote sustainable agriculture. The motive of this area is to eliminate hunger through the next ten years (UN,2020). This goal also supports issues tackling climate change, promoting gender equality, supporting sustainable agriculture, ensuring healthy lifestyles, empowering the small farming sector, etc. The global disease prevention and promotion of health can be implemented through practices related to agriculture and nutrition. Multiple challenges have a greater impact on the common good in the context of local and global communities. Nurses have an important role in implementing the aim of the current goal of the United Nations (UN,2020). The right to live with dignity and equality is guaranteed to every individual irrespective of any criteria of differentiation. The classification based on race, gender, background, and economy leading to inequality, is not regarded in this context. When people from different communities, especially communities of vulnerable and marginalized nature, are treated equally and provided equal opportunities with benefits, the principles of the common good are fulfilled. A mutual good represents public morals that represent a way of living composed and which everybody profits from. There are approximately seven hundred million people around the globe who are not able to have a proper meal per day. Every year the number of people hungry increases by ten million (ACU,2019). In local as well as in global context, food security is a key social determinant of health and a significant public health concern. The risk of chronic diseases and malnutrition because of lack of nutritious food is increasing rapidly among individuals. Access to nutritious food can reduce this risk and decrease the mortality rate as well.Nurses also have a duty towards social issues and concerns related to the common good (Jairath, 2016). It is contended that a good nurse must have true courage with humanity to achieve the lifelong common good. Their role in helping people can be accomplished by providing awareness regarding nutrition, food security, malnutrition, and other diseases occurring because of the lack of nutritious food in remote areas (NMBA,2018). As a concerned and educated person, a nurse can fight for the rights of marginalized groups in respect of education, social justice, health, and nutritious food services. The schemes provided by the government regarding food for people below the poverty line are less known by people in actual need (WFP, 2015). Nurses can help them in getting benefits through such schemes and offers. Additionally, minor business training can also be given by nurses connecting with other specialists to make those individuals eligible to earn by themselves. The nurses have a substantial role in both aspects of screening food uncertainty and referral outlets for people at large (NMBA,2018).
Moreover, nurses can be a part of health advancement and fund raising for fruitful drives. While revising the common good, everybody justifies having what they want to endure and flourish. Although, various issues make the application of principles of the common good a difficult task. For example, in the criteria of the unsustainability of the agriculture sector (Choosing the Common Good,2010). It faces the issue as it cannot produce the best quality for all people in society. Approximately around eighty-seven million people across the world are victims of hungry and surviving at minimum basic needs. The expansion in agricultural and rural sectors benefits developing nations to accomplish broad-based economic evolution. The agricultural expansion also results in job openings which help in dropping poverty. Consequently, the enlargement of agricultural lands leading to deforestation might influence significantly in the scheduling (William, 2013). The other issues faced as the hurdle in the development of the common good are the farmers who experience shorter growing seasons, drought, and changes in cropping outlines as an outcome of global warming. This disturbs food production in evolving nations. The pandemic has also majorly affected the health system of every individual. These issues raise the question of the implementation of the principle of the common good. Concluding the above-mentioned points, it is observed that there is a huge need for planning, execution, and implementation of projects which upheld the principle of the common good. It can be achieved by improving food quality and promoting sustainability in the agriculture sector.
