Article 1.Four miners still in hospital two months after Grosvenor explosion Brisbane Times, July 1, 2020.
Four men injured in a central Queensland coal mine methane explosion almost two months ago are still in a Brisbane hospital, while a board of inquiry investigating the incident will also look at high-risk methane levels at the mine. The May 6 explosion at the Grosvenor mine near Moranbah, owned by Anglo American, seriously injured five men, who were airlifted to Brisbane. One man was released from hospital weeks ago.
The four remaining men are now out of intensive care but remain in hospital in a stable condition, an Anglo American spokeswoman said. Meanwhile, the board of inquiry set up by Mines Minister Anthony Lynham to investigate the incident has confirmed its terms of reference include "high potential incidents involving exceedances of methane" at Grosvenor and other mines between July 2019 and May 2020. It had been disclosed that high methane levels were frequently reported at the Grosvenor mine in the months leading up to the incident.
Board chairman, retired Queensland District Court judge Terry Martin SC, said "all relevant parties and their work would be considered. The board is yet to set dates for public hearings for the inquiry, which will be live-streamed and publicly accessible. There is no prescription, nor proscription, as to how the board is to inquire into all incidents. All relevant evidence will be sought and considered," Mr Martin said. A number of notices to produce documents (attendance notices) have been given to various bodies.
Article 2 - Premier Investments: Investors in group behind Peter Alexander, Smiggle protest executive pay
The Australian, December 4, 2020
Shareholders in the retail group that owns Peter Alexander and Just Jeans have lodged a substantial protest vote against remuneration paid to top executives, but the chairman says it’s fully justified, especially given a 70 per cent surge in online sales. A whopping 48.5 per cent of votes were cast against Premier Investments’ remuneration report at the company’s annual general meeting on Friday, well above the 25 per cent threshold required to register as a ”first strike”. If that happens again at next year’s AGM, a board spill motion will be triggered.
The report shows Premier Retail chief executive Mark McInnes’s fixed salary rose from $2.5 million to $2.75 million at the start of 2019-20, and he also received $2.5 million in short- term incentive payments during the financial year. But he and the entire Just Group senior executive team opted not to take any pay in April when the coronavirus pandemic forced store closures and cut their monthly gross remuneration by 20 per cent in May as the outlets gradually reopened. Chairman Solomon Lew said Mr McInnes’s bonus was a reward for record underlying earnings, up 11.5 per cent, in 2018-19. The bonus was exactly the same as the prior year when 96 per cent of votes were cast in favour of the remuneration report, Mr Lew said.
