Front End Planning Phase of the Sydney Opera House (SOH) Project Plan
Task 1:Consider the front end planning phase of the Sydney Opera House project, identify 20 activities that should be completed during this phase of the project. Make sure your list has a comprehensive coverage of front end planning activities/issues of the project. Record these on the template.
Task 2:
Based on the information provided in the case and your reasonable assumptions (for what is not written in the case), assess how well the work on the SOH case was performed against the 20 activities. Remember the focus is on front end planning. In other words, for each of the activities, assess the SOH case using the following levels:
- Level 1 – complete definition (no further work is required)
- Level 2 – minor deficiencies (no further work is required prior to the end of front end planning)
- Level 3 – some deficiencies (more work is needed prior to the end of front end planning)
- Level 4 – major deficiencies (a lot more work is needed prior to the end of front end planning)
- Level 5 – incomplete or poor definition (little or nothing is known).Record your choices in the last column of the table in the template.
Task 3:
With the assessment result, you can add all the levels up to achieve a score. If all activities get a Level 5, the total (maximum) score will be 100. Your score may be smaller than 100 depending your assessment of the work that was done in the SOH project.
Based on the assessment result:
- Discuss the quality of the front end planning work in the SOH project.
- Discuss what should have been done differently to improve the effectiveness of the project's front end planning.
- Give any comments and observations you may have collaboration in this exercise.
