1.1 Reason for the report
This report examines the impact the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster on the environment, how the radiation exposure continues to affect both humans and animals in Japan, and the complications of the nuclear waste clean-up that is expected to span generations.
This report is an assessable component of the Adult Tertiary Pathway (ATP) course at TAFE QLD South West.

Information for this report was sourced from various secondary sources, all listed in the Reference List. Data from publications by the Australian Bureau of Statistics also proved valuable.
This report is not a comprehensive review of the available literature, but provides a broad overview of the topic.
1.3 Definition of Terms
Wherever the term ‘disaster’ on its own is used, it is in reference to the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster. The report focuses on several key aspects of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster and is not a comprehensive account of all changes that have occurred.
