The synthesis of the Rivastigmine analogues utilises a functionalised acetophenone intermediate.  Your team is newly employed by ChDC as Organic Chemists. As production of the Rivastigmine analogues is being scaled up, the demand for the acetophenone intermediates is beginning to outweigh the supply. You have been additionally tasked with scoping out the viability of producing these molecules in-house. It was decided that one molecule would be trialled in an expedient synthesis and a laboratory report submitted to your line manager.  Before a trial synthesis can be conducted an organic synthesis method and safety audit must be presented to your OHS officer.
