Each student will be assigned a company or fashion brand that sources its goods in Europe or Asia or South America.  For this Major Logistics Research Assignment, each student must write a report or newsletter from the perspective of the fictional position of Vice-President of Global Procurement for the company/brand that has been assigned to you.  You have considerable flexibility as to how to organize your report or newsletter as long as you touch upon two (2) of the core attributes of supply chain management [1. brand differentiation and related financial and business strategies and 2. global sourcing and related total cost analysis / demand forecasting] and one of the other important aspects of this course {Transportation, Enterprise Resource Planning Software, Warehousing, Inventory Management, Reverse Logistics}. 

Your report or newsletter must be a minimum of 1,000 words to receive a pass grade. If the Presentation is PowerPoint with no audio, there must be a minimum of 20 slides; if there is voice over the PowerPoint, the minimum is 15 slides or 5 minutes; and for any video or other multi-media presentation, the minimum length to obtain a pass grades is 5 minutes. You MUST work on this Newsletter by yourself and please use your own words throughout.  Reference sources and citations (if any) may be placed as endnotes. 

While you are permitted a broad scope, please refrain from simply parroting the company or brand’s marketing and web pronouncements.  Students should try to present a Behind The Scenes look at the Company or Brand….When writing your report or newsletter you should probably plan to address some or all of the items or issues described below:

1. Introduce the company/brand assigned to you and discuss the nature of the business strategies that the company/brand utilizes to promote, sell and distribute its most popular fashion and clothing products. 

2. Provide an overview of the past, current and the projected future financial position of the brand/company.

3. RESEARCH and explain the nature of the supply chain for the apparel products associated with the company/brand. Describe the likely sources or suppliers (in which countries or continents are the manufacturing facilities located) for the brand’s most popular products. 

4. Explain the concept of “total cost of ownership” with reference to the Brand’s purchase of goods from suppliers. Describe whether for the company/brand the total cost concept may be expanded to include considerations relating to (i) product quality; (ii) crisis or pandemic brand management; and (iii) ethical sourcing or environmental protection principles. 

5. Describe the modes of transportation that you believe the company/brand most often uses to deliver its products from the supplier’s manufacturing factories to stores or distribution centers in Canada.

6. Provide your insights and analysis as to how Covid19 has affected the company/brand in 2020 and whether you believe the company/brand will change its demand forecasts for certain products or make any changes to transportation services, retail stores and/or its distribution centers to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and/or other health and ethical sourcing initiatives.  

7. Describe the opportunities and challenges presented to the Brand as a result of the management of its global supply chains as well as your predictions for the direction or paths the Brand will take over the next 3 - 5 years.
