Description

1. Research one type of process-induced phase transformation (intentional or unintentional). As such, identify the processing step (primary or secondary) at which this transformation occurs and the type(s) of transformations that may be induced at this processing step.

2. Describe the fundamental basis behind how the process-induced phase transformation that you selected occurs. Suggest characterization techniques that can be used to detect and/or quantify the transformation.

3. Find three examples of from the scientific literature that report this process-induced phase transformation. Critically review the data used to demonstrate this
transformation. Report the authors' interpretation or suggestion of the mechanism for this transformation and critically review their findings. Please support all of your critiques with data from the papers that you use as examples of the process-induced phase transformation.

Criteria

• Describe the process-induced transformation and any mechanisms by which it is understood to occur.
• Detail techniques that are used to unambiguously detect this type of transformation
• Interpretation of all data presented, with critiques (as necessary) regarding the experiments conducted to demonstrate/detect the process- induced transformation.
• Present a detailed argument regarding the validity of data interpretations presented by the authors, in the papers chosen.
• Critique the transformation mechanism proposed in the papers you have
  chosen. Is it correct? Are there other interpretations to the data?
• Adequate objectivity (recognition that other, orthogonal characterization techniques may provide better, or additional information; please suggest what those are, and show how, when used together with your assigned technique result in a stronger argument).
