Thus far you have been applying developmental constructs to yourself, and listening to how your peers are doing the same. In this exercise, you will apply this same analysis, although in a simplified form, to a fictional character as portrayed in a movie.
 

Each group will choose a major character(s) within a movie, and apply developmental theories and themes discussed in this class to the developmental analysis of the characters. Each group must choose a different movie according to themes described below. A Developmental Assessment write up of the group’s assessment conclusions will then be submitted to the class.
 

Each group will participate in a group supervision session to discuss the hypothesized developmental themes displayed in the movie in a format similar to a clinical case consult: Your professor will initiate this by asking each participant to summarize in 1 minute what their developmental take is on the identified character(s). You will dialog with each other, and your professor - not the class. While you are asked to limit your initial summary to 1 minute, the group’s dialog with your professor will likely last close to 40 minutes.
 

Classmates will form an outer observation circle, similar to The Reflecting Team method of listening and engaging. Observers follow along via the Developmental Assessment handout previously distributed in the Movie Night Folder on our course site. Following the case consult, the observers will engage in a discussion with the Movie Night team.
