Unit Description

This unit provides registered nurses with the opportunity to further develop their capability in critical thinking, reflection on practice, clinical reasoning and ability to integrate theory into practice. It provides the students with the knowledge and skills to identify a problem in clinical practice, analyse the literature in relation to the identified problem, synthesis evidence-based knowledge from the literature and apply such knowledge in clinical decision making to achieve best practice outcomes. 
Students will be required to reflect on their practice and document their practice through writing a reflective journal and the development of a clinical plan to address the problem or issue of concern. Demonstration of the application of the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice (2016), Codes of Professional Conduct in Australia (2016) and theories of contemporary nursing practice are required in making appropriate clinical decisions for quality health care delivery

Reflect on their clinical learning experience in journal entries:
Assess specific and related nursing problems using knowledge gained in theoretical studies; (1), (4)
Plan comprehensive nursing care, specific to patients/clients; (3), (4), (5), (6)
Evaluate the effectiveness of planned nursing care programmes; (4), (5)
Interpret the significance of nursing observations with the view to take necessary actions to prevent further complications; (4), (5)
