Assignment Task

1. In order to perform the analysis, you need to create a new Personal Geodatabase with four new feature classes (Roads, Houses, Rivers, and Fields) and digitize these data from a georeferenced image Assessment2.jpg (coordinate system: GDA_1994_VICGRID94). This georeferenced image is included in the Assessment 2 data.zip file on LMS. Manually digitize the roads, houses (50+ houses), rivers, and fields highlighted in Figure 1 to your corresponding feature classes and save your data to your project folder (i.e., name the folder with your student ID).

2. It is expected that this road upgrade project will increase the traffic noise level for the surrounding residents. The zones affected by traffic noise are as follows, depending on your student.

3. More frequent traffic on this road upgrade and the use of agricultural chemicals on the fields can seriously damage the ecosystems around the rivers/creeks. Precious ecosystems are located around all rivers/creeks as follows:

  • It is known that traffic can have an effect for up to 200m around main roads and up to 100m around minor roads. Agricultural chemicals can affect up to 400m around Corn fields and up to 300m around Rye fields.
  • Find and calculate the total areas of the ecosystems that are affected by any of the agricultural chemicals or traffic. Display this information on a map. Save the map as Map2.mxd and print it as Map2.pdf in your project folder.
