SCENARIO  

Mr A (aged 86) and Mrs A (aged 82) live in their  own single story suburban home. They have 2  children who live interstate and have their own  families. Mr and Mrs A are well known in their  local community and see their close neighbours  regularly many of whom are also elderly. Mrs A  enjoys cooking and preparing meals for herself  and her husband. They enjoy a walk together  around the block every morning and looking  after their small garden. They are a very  supportive couple. Mr A helps out with most of  the domestic tasks. He drives (Mrs A has never  driven) and they shop and attend a local  gardening club meetings together. 

Mr A has macular degeneration resulting in some difficulty reading and seeing the television. He has  reduced his driving to the local area and no longer drives at night or anywhere he has not been  before. He had an acute myocardial infarction two years ago with a good recovery.  

Mrs A has a history of hypertension and osteoarthritis in her back and hips. Over the last 2 years she  has had a series of falls which has impacted on her confidence. The most serious fall was 6 months  ago and resulted in a fractured Neck of Femur (NOF). Following a number of weeks of rehabilitation  she returned home, mobilising with a single point stick for short distances but using a 4 wheeled frame  for longer distances including her daily walk with her husband.
