Students intending to undertake a 36 credit point minor thesis or a 24 credit point research project involving primary research as a component of their Master of Nursing/Clinical Midwifery Students intending to undertake a systematic review as a 24 credit point research project as a component of their Master of Nursing/Clinical Midwifery should select Option
Students not intending to undertake a research project or minor thesis may select any option. If you are unsure which option to select, please discuss with your lecturer/ unit coordinator.
Introduction/background
Briefly describe the background to your study (i.e. how the idea arose, define any terms) with appropriate references. Clearly identify the research problem to be investigated. Critical literature review: Describe your search strategy and provide a critical review of the relevant literature. You need to explain what research has been done to highlight the gap in knowledge to demonstrate the Research aim/s, or hypothesis: State the aim/s and hypothesis as appropriate. Significance Explain the significance of your study
Research design
Discuss the methodology or design you plan to use for the study, with justification, including a brief discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of this approach.
Research study
Detail the planned research processes, including the study setting; proposed participants (including sample size/number of proposed participants and inclusion/exclusion criteria); procedures for recruitment, data that will be collected and procedures for data (where applicable), or a list of the proposed interview questions (if interviews are to be conducted). Identify the limitations of the study
All sections must be referenced using sources specific to the methodology/design (NB general research texts are NOT specific references). Analysis and study rigour: Describe, using methodology-specific references, how you intend to analyze the data collected and how you will demonstrate validity, reliability and/or trustworthiness (as appropriate which software will be used and why. The validity/rigor of research needs to be addressed in line with the methodology.

Dissemination of findings
Outline how you propose to share your findings with others. Timetable and Project funding: Provide a timeline (or Gantt chart) and budget for your proposed study and justify the costs to be incurred. Suggest, with justification, at least one body or organization to which must be one year from the start of the study to the end.
