Inadequate minerals and vitamins, obesity, and overweight can also be the causes of malnutrition. Reports state that 28% people in the UK suffer from obesity especially, children belonging to the poor areas of the country (UNICEF, 2019). In consideration of the rising obesity among children in the UK, Kersbergen and Robinson (2019) stated that it is evident that adults are not aware of the consequences that these children might face in the future. Thus, in order to do so, it is essential for the government to take necessary steps to reduce malnutrition among children. Healthy Start Vouchers were provided to low-income families with young children under the age of 4. In this voucher, the eligible family is entitled to receive basic food items such as milk, nuts and qualifying in this scheme will entitle the family to redeem the vouchers in 30000 shops all over the UK. The voucher also contains pregnancy vitamins, vitamins for children aged between 6 months to 5years aimed to fight malnutrition amongst children from a very early age (GOV.UK, 2021). Moreover, along 5 with extended free school meals, the government also introduced School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme to provide free access to fruits and vegetables for children within the age range of four to six that are enrolled within the state funded schools (HM Government, 2014). It has been noted by Huysentruyt et al. (2019) that children with large families are at more risk of malnutrition. Currently, the 2020 child poverty rate in the UK has been supervised by the government and selectively targeted relative poverty, absolute poverty, combined low income, and material deprivation, and persistent poverty to decipher its connection with malnutrition (Ghodsi et al. 2021). Moreover, a Child Poverty Commission has been established concerning this situation as well (UK Parliament, 2015). In consideration of the Covid-19 situation, the UK government has also taken noted strategies to fix 'failures in food' (Parliament.UK, 2020).
