Assignment Task:

Students will complete a 1700 Word case study that discusses the provision of ethical, legal, evidence-based, holistic person-centered care including the establishment of realistic and relevant goals through the theoretical examination of a particular nursing specialty case study using the Clinical Reasoning Cycle (Levett-Jones, 2018).

Students are expected to use the Clinical Reasoning Cycle (Levett-Jones, 2018) as a framework to plan and evaluate person-centered care. You are being asked to think through the case scenario and then discuss how data was collected and the type of data collected, identify problems and nursing issues, identify and state the objectives and discuss how care was provided in order to address the issues and evaluate the interventions carried out: (analyze and identify a nursing issues/problems/needs, set objectives, discuss the nursing interventions and evaluate the interventions of care carried out). Students are expected to apply the clinical reasoning cycle to address the case scenario using the following format:

  • Provide an introduction

  • Consider the person’s situation

  • Collect, process and present related health information

  • Identify and prioritise three (3) nursing problems/issues based on the health assessment data that you have identified for the person at the centre of care.

  • Establish goals for the priority of nursing care related to the nursing problem/issues identified

  • Discuss the nursing care of the person; link it to assessment data and history.

  • Evaluate your nursing care strategies to justify the nursing care provided

  • Reflect on the person’s outcomes/your learning

  • Provide a conclusion

P.S.

Just to remind you that you need to read the description and the purpose of the assessment task so that you are addressing the topic correctly. You are using the CRC so follow the structure and use the marking rubric to guide you. Make sure your essay includes an introduction, body and conclusion.

The introduction should

  1. How you frame the topic ie the context and key terms

  2. Identify your argument

  3. State upfront the issues you will be addressing

  4. Identify the ideas you will be addressing

  5. Explain how you will conclude.

Introductions are best written when the essay has been completed so that the introduction reflects the essay body succinctly. The introduction:

  1. Is approximately 10% of total word count

  2. Creates the context for the reader therefore needs to be clear and concise.

  3. Conclude with a clear statement ie “This study will demonstrate that…”

Aim to present a clear and cohesive discussion or argument and this an be done by using paragraphs. Begin a paragraph with what information is known and move to what information is new. Expect to use 3-5 sentences to cover your point. A paragraph finishes with a concluding sentence that makes your point clear. When you complete the discussion on one thought you can move to the next paragraph to develop the thought further or shift the topic. Where complex and multiple points are being presented then a number of paragraphs are used and this is where you transition or develop the point. Structuring paragraphs can ensure your essay discussion is sequential and logical to the reader.

Avoid making sweeping statements that cannot be supported from your research. Such statements are all-inclusive and without exception. You cannot speak for everyone therefore you need to provide a less definitive statement.

The conclusion brings together the discussion of the essay summing up points and creating a final perspective on the discussion. It needs to have a strong voice re-presenting the main points, however, the points should not be re-stated.  It should be a restatement of the argument identified in the introduction.

  1. Does not contain new material.

  2. Explains the significance of your findings.

  3. Identify limitations.

  4. Link to the essay topic but do not repeat your essay in a summary.

  5. Link to the context of your discipline.
