Report Writing : The purpose of this assignment is to prompt you to think early about your major paper for the course and to ensure that you receive concrete feedback on your ideas for the paper before handing in the final report at the end of the term.The proposal should outline your preliminary ideas on how you will deal with the 3 core required sections of the democracy assistance report (more details below): 1. Background/Problem identification 2. Describing and evaluating existing programs 3. Design your own democracy promotion strategy The proposal must answer some of these basic questions:

• Which country do you choose and why?
• Is it a current recipient of Australia’s foreign aid? If not, why do you think Australia should give aid to this country?
• What are the contextual background of the country you believe is relevant for the democracy assistance program?
• How will you justify giving democracy assistance to this country?
• Has this country received aid before? If so from what country/organisation? What kind of programs were administered in this country that related to governance/democratisation?
• Brief evaluation of previous democracy-related programs this country received. Were they successful?
• What ideas do you have about the new democracy assistance program you will be proposing?
