Task: In this task, you will develop the following learning outcomes: • Critically analyse and discuss the literature and major works related to international practice in your area • Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on complex theories and recent developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in your field Description In this assessment task, you will write a literature review, in order to develop your ability to recognise and critically analyse relevant literature, practice and theories in your field. You will develop a research question or statement that describes your area of inquiry, and you will develop a literature review in order to refine and develop your research question. You are seeking to identify 3 themes relevant to your research inquiry, analyzing the literature you have identified, describing its significance in the field and relevance to your proposed inquiry. As part of your Literature Review, you must also include at least ONE example of contemporary practice relevant to your research inquiry. Your conclusion should include a refined research question suitable for your Research Proposal, which is informed by your Literature Review. A Literature Review is a coherent review of the literature directly related to the topic or problem under study, followed by an explanation of how your research question developed out of that review. The purpose of the literature review is to know what others have discovered before you begin your investigation of your own, to ground your study in a particular context of what is known about a subject in order to establish a foundation for the topic and question being researched. The purpose of this assignment is to facilitate your abilities to research a topic of study so you can learn to (1) identify and formulate an inquiry question that defines what you’d like to learn, (2) know how to search and locate literature (e.g. journal articles) using library resources; (3) analyse information found in journal articles, and (4) synthesise new knowledge into a written literature review and (5) establish context for your research proposal. A literature review paper reviews and synthesises the current understanding of a particular topic. It is a very useful way to become up to date on the state of knowledge and the research that has been done in a particular research area. Writing a review paper is good practice for synthesising and organising a lot of information into a concise written document. You must do library research to collect journal articles (and books) to write your paper. Information from the Internet will not be accepted, unless it is from a journal that is published or available on the web. You should write your paper for an audience that is relatively familiar with your subject (such as a peer in your class). However you should not assume that the reader has read the papers that you have read. In addition, you should define any new terms or jargon that have not been discussed in class or course readings.
