Highlights
Introduction (GRDE1016 )
For your first assignment in this unit, you will undertake a Design Investigation via a series of weekly case study analyses. In the early weeks of this unit, during your weekly in-class lectures you will be introduced to a range of aesthetically-focused design principles that have been broadly categories into themes. To demonstrate your understanding of these themes and their related principles, you will conduct a series of case study analyses through the lens of each of the introduced principles.
Learning Activities
After each weekly lecture, you will undertake an in-class activity involving two case study analyses using the themes and principles that were introduced in that week. You will be expected to complete that activity as your weekly homework, and show it to your tutor in the next class for feedback and critique. Iterate upon that week’s activity in response to the feedback that you receive. For your Assignment 1 submission, you will refine and collate each of those weekly activity responses into a single PDF document and lodge it via the Blackboard Assignment 1 Submission box by the stipulated due date.
Weekly Case Study
Each week, you will be required to choose two interactive screen-design case study examples for analysis. Your analysis must be undertaken through the lens of the design themes and their related principles introduced in that week.
Each week’s interactive screen-design case study must consist of:
1 Website Design (As viewed using a desktop web browser)
1 App Design (As viewed either on a Mobile or Tablet)
One of these case study examples must come from the Corporate genre, and the other from the Entertainment genre:
Corporate: Architecture, Business, Design, Fashion, Finance, Food/Drink or Technology.
Entertainment: Arts, Games, Movies, Music, Sports or Travel.
You must pick different case examples for each week without repetition. Avoid aesthetically bland case examples, instead choose ones that are visually rich, engaging or just stylish. For example, your weekly chosen case studies might look like this:
