You work as a case manager in a Non GovernmentAgencywhich has been tasked with assisting Barry and his daughter, Jane regarding their current situation.

Your client is a 65 year old widower whosewife passed away twelve months ago. Barry has been living with his dog, Rusty at home. Barry has a small circle of friends and regularly attends the local club on Friday nights for the raffles and a few beers. Since his wife's passing Barry has had home care and meals on wheels to support him. Barry was admitted to the local hospital due to a stroke.

The stroke has left Barry with right side paralysis and difficulty communicating. The doctors believed that Barry would be unableto care for himself and recommended he gointo a aged carefacility. Barry's daughter insisted that she would be able to take care of her father with supports in place and her father was discharged into her care. Your agency has been contacted by Barry's daughter, Jane after a period of a week reporting that the situation is not sustainable and that her fathers moods go from being angryto crying excessively. Jane is a senior executive in a major metropolitan city and hoped that she would be able to care for her father for six months and then have him transferred to the city closer to whereshelives. Jane has said she did notrealize it would be so difficult and believes that she will be unable to continue caring for her father as she is required back at work at the end of twelve months. You have been called in to talk to Barry and his daughter and asked to provide an assessmentof the situation.

This is your first day back at work after responding to an emergencycall from your father, he fractured his hip last month and is still hospitalised. Your father is located in a small country town over a thousand kilometres away.
