Tort Case Study
The case of Mr Jerome’s visit to the accident and emergency department of the hospital after returning back the previous day from a holiday abroad, had been consulted by newly qualified doctor, Marianna; she did not feel necessary to examine him or carry out any test and she concluded that Jerome was suffering from jet lag and sent him home. Jerome decided to leave the facility on the basis of this information and was later found that he had contracted a serious illness whilst on holiday, which had caused his death two days later after visiting the A&E. It was stated by medical experts that even if Marianna had examined Jerome and carried out appropriate tests on him, because the illness would have been so advanced by that time, it is uncertain as to whether treatment would have saved Jerome.
