Highlights
A Milling Machine Fixture (henceforth referred as “Fixture”) can be used to hold components during manufacture. This fixture is cast from mild steel and the overall shape is to be machined with four grooves - for clamping - keyhole shaped, running along the length of the fixture, at the widest corners. The narrower section of the fixture also has two grooves. The top and bottom of the fixture has symmetrical cut-outs. All right-angled corners are to be chamfered.
You are to draw this fixture manually, using technical drawing techniques, on A3 sized paper in Solidworks . You must layout the frame, grid reference and title block[1] correctly on the paper according to BS EN ISO 8888.
1. The first technical drawing must be in Third Angle Projection with at least three views on a scale of 1:1. It must also include an isometric view, correctly positioned and laid out in the same drawing sheet. This isometric drawing must be on a reduction scale of 1:2. The drawing must include dimensions (see Figure 1, 2 and 3), hidden lines, centre lines, outlines and one section line. All lines must be in the correct width according to BS EN ISO 128-20.
2. A second sheet of paper must be correctly laid out on another A3 sheet (tab) and must include only the sectional view AA defined by the section line shown on the first drawing. This sectional view must be on a scale of 2:1 and correctly presented according to chapter 9.7.2.2 of the BS EN ISO 8888.
3. A third A3 technical drawing must be presented as a revision of the first drawing. This revision drawing must be presented in the same manner as the first drawing, except for the dimensions from drawing 1, but will include the following revision with respective dimensions showing: one 10mm counterbore concentric hole through all the fixture from the top face to the bottom face in the middle of the cut-out with Ø16mm by Dmm depth concentric indentation on both ends for a flat head pin. Plus an M5 tapped hole 14mm deep. The title block must acknowledge the revision, entitled ‘Revision 1’.
