In summary, the Habits of Mind (Costa & Kallick, 2000) is a great way to help not
only the learner but the teacher as well. While I was reviewing the concepts of Habits o
Mind, I organized my thoughts and created another way of putting my ideas to paper. In the
past, I have come across that the brain can only absorb so much at a time. So, when I
encountered the number 16, it was difficult to assimilate. Perhaps, creating five categories
and putting the habits of mind within those categories would better aide in understanding
and learning these concepts. So was born Silva’s Five Dimension of Habits of Mind. This is
a work in progress, and I believe that it can be organized in a way that ties up the loose
ends together in the future. For example, I named the five dimensions (in boldface) as: 1)
Self-Check, 2) Behavior, 3) Inspired, 4) Feeling, and 5) Metacognitive (see Fig. 1.1).
Next, I used an acronym for each habit of mind for easier memorization. The next step was
that I renumerated the 16 Habits of Mind and incorporated in this new format. (see Fig.
2.1)
